Johns Hopkins APL Unveils Radioisotope-Powered Drone for Possible NASA Titan Exploration


TYSONS CORNER, VA, Aug. 25, 2017 — Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory has introduced a conceptual radioisotope-powered autonomous dual-quadcopter as a possible platform to support a future NASA mission to explore Saturn’s largest moon, ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.

APL said Wednesday the Dragonfly concept features a Multi-Mission Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator that will work to power the rotorcraft lander and enable it to navigate around multiple sites even with the limited sunlight at Titan.
