August 2nd Market Close: GovConIndex Closes Up While Major Indices Close Mixed


The Executive Mosaic GovCon Index (GCI) closed up slightly to 99.401, positive 0.008 percent. KBR topped the GCI posting strong Q2 earnings which resulted in a 8.29 percent gain on the day. Advancers and decliners were evening split.

The major indices closed mixed. The S&P500 up 0.05 percent to 2,477.57, while the DJIA broke 22,000 closing at 22,016.24, and the NASDAQ Composite was flat on the day closing at 6,362.65.

Crude oil reversed yesterday’s loses to close up. WTI on the NY Mercantile Exchange closed today at $49.52 per barrel, up 0.73 percent on reported increased gasoline demand.
