Iridium Eyes Certification as Global Maritime Distress Safety Systems Service Provider

TYSONS CORNER, VA, July 14, 2017 — Iridium Communications (Nasdaq: IRDM) is working to secure certification from the International Maritime Organization as an authorized mobile satellite services provider in support of global maritime distress safety systems, ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.

The company said Tuesday it aims to become a recognized GMDSS service provider by 2018 based on updated IMO equipment performance standards and Safety of Life at Sea Treaty amendments in order to launch Iridium GMDSS services in 2020.
