Inmarsat’s Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch: Collaboration, ‘Commercial First’ Approach to Address Satcom Program Challenges

Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch

TYSONS CORNER, VA, July 21, 2017 — Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, senior vice president for government strategy and policy at Inmarsat, has noted that collaboration between industry and the Defense Department will drive the analysis of alternatives for the wideband satellite communications program, ExecutiveBiz reported Thursday.

Cowen-Hirsch wrote in a National Defense Magazine guest piece published Wednesday that a cultural shift toward a “commercial  first” approach will work to address challenges in future satcom development efforts.

“[A] ‘commercial first’ mindset… leads to more rapid development of core components of any strategic, focused and well-integrated satellite architecture — one that enables global mobility, resiliency, high data-driven functionality, security and affordability,” she said.
