General Atomics Receives $400M Air Force Reaper RPA Production Contract

General Atomics‘ aeronautical systems business unit has secured a $400 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to manufacture 36 MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft.

The Defense Department said Tuesday the firm-fixed-price contract is for the fiscal 2016 production configuration of MQ-9 RPAs.

Work will occur at a company facility Poway, California, through Aug. 31, 2020.

The Air Force obligated the full contract amount from its fiscal 2016 aircraft procurement funds at the time of award.

GA-ASI also received a $349.1 million contract in December 2016 to provide support services for the Air Force’s MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial systems.

MQ-Reaper is the Air Force designation for the Predator B platform that GA-ASI developed to aid in surveillance and strike support missions.
