UK Awards $412M Contract to General Dynamics for Tactical Comm & Info System Development

General Dynamics‘ (NYSE: GD) U.K. arm has received a potential $411.8 million contract from the British defense ministry to design and develop a tactical communication and information system.

The award is the first contract issued under the MORPHEUS program that aims to modernize the command-and-control networks of the U.K.’s armed forces, General Dynamics said Thursday.

The company will implement the Evolve to Open architectural approach in an effort to help transform the British armed forces’ Bowman tactical communication system into an open, modular platform.

The U.K. army will use the new system to plan, deploy, manage and monitor communications and information as well as integrate new radios, applications and other system components.

General Dynamics was awarded a contract to build the Bowman system in 2001.
