PACIFIC OCEAN (Feb. 13, 2017) The weapons department aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) conducts a four-day ammunition on load during a vertical replenishment with Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 23, HSC-3 and HSC-14 while underway. The ammunition on load is the final requirement in order for the ship to deploy this summer. America is capable of supporting a wide spectrum of military operations and missions, including putting Marines ashore for combat operations, launching air strikes, keeping sea lanes free and open for movement of global commerce and delivering humanitarian aid following a natural disaster.
