Lockheed Awarded $114M Hubble Space Telescope Support Extension


Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has secured a $114.3 million extension on the company’s Mission Operations, Systems Engineering, and Software II contract with NASA to continue to maintain a space observatory currently in low-Earth orbit.

NASA said Thursday that Lockheed’s space systems segment will support the Hubble Space Telescope through the next phase of the observatory’s science mission under the sole-source contract.

Work is scheduled to run through June 30, 2021.

The company will perform system engineering tasks such as mission system capacity optimization to properly maintain the Hubble Space Telescope’s flight and ground systems as well as implement strategies to increase the telescope’s operations effectiveness and science productivity.

Lockheed will also conduct all non-science elements of Hubble operations and work to provide safety and efficiency for control utilization of the space observatory along with maintenance and operation of its facilities and equipment.
