GE, ATEC Land $256M in Turbine Engine Design Review Contracts With Army


turbine-aircraftThe U.S. Army has awarded a $154 million contract to General Electric‘s (NYSE: GE) aviation segment and a $102 million contract to Advanced Turbine Engine Co. to conduct preliminary design reviews for an updated helicopter turbine engine technology.

The Defense Department said Monday the companies will assess the design of the engine for potential use on UH-60 Blackhawk and AH-64E Apache helicopters.

DoD added work will occur through Aug. 21, 2018 at the contractors’ facilities.

The Army Contracting Command will obligate $20.8 million to ATEC and $17.9 million to GE at the time of the award of the contracts from the service branch’s fiscal 2016 research, development, test and evaluation funds.

Lynn, Massachusetts-based GE Aviation offers jet engines, components and integrated systems for commercial and military aircraft.

Phoenix, Arizona-based ATEC, a joint venture between Honeywell (NYSE: HON) and United Technologies Corp.‘s (NYSE: UTX) Pratt & Whitney subsidiary, provides engineering, supply chain, manufacturing and logistics support services.
