July 15 Market Close: GovCon Index Flat Ahead of 2Q Earnings Season’s Start


GovConIndexDOWNExecutive Mosaic’s GovCon Index fell into narrow range mid-morning after a positive open Friday as defense and contracting stocks ended the week-long rally ahead of the start of second quarter earnings season Tuesday.

The GovCon Index posted a nominal loss of 0.004 points to 81.819 but ended the week up 1.257 percent, while the S&P 500 composite index with 11 GCI stocks recorded a gain of 1.459 percent over five days despite a Friday decline that ended the market bellwether’s streak of four consecutive record high closes.

AECOM (NYSE: ACM) and Vectrus (NYSE: VEC) both reached 52-week highs during intraday trade and the latter closed 5 cents shy of that benchmark.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) added 98 cents with 3.44 million shares traded versus the 10-day moving average volume of 2.7 million.

Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed will be the first GovCon Index company to report second quarter earnings with its statement due before markets open Tuesday.

Honeywell International (NYSE: HON) and Textron (NYSE: TXT) will release their April-to-June results Friday prior to the opening bell.
