State Dept OKs UAE’s Proposed $380M Purchase of Bomb Guidance Kits

State DepartmentThe State Department has approved the United Arab Emirates’ request to procure Joint Direct Attack Munitions from the U.S. through a $380 million foreign military sales agreement.

The U.S. and UAE have yet to determine the primary contractor for the sale, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday.

The deal covers JDAM GBU-31V1, GBU-12 and GBU-31V3 JDAM kits plus bombs, fuzes, spares, equipment,  logistics and sustainment support services.

DSCA said UAE needs the munition systems to support the U.S. and its Middle Eastern allies in Operation Inherent Resolve as they fight against the Islamic State organization to help restore political stability in the region.

The agreement also calls for periodic JDAM program management reviews in the U.S. or UAE.
