He will report to CEO Joseph Carlini and be responsible for the companyâs combat systems programs and growth strategy in the SPAWAR market, McKean Defense Group said Monday.

“Rod was a perfect candidate for this new role given his naval engineering duty officer background, his prior government service at the pinnacle of major U.S. Navy technology advancements, and his understanding of industry, â Carlini added.
As SPAWAR deputy commander, Smith oversaw all SPAWAR operations and assisted in the program executive officesâ acquisition programs.
He also served as executive director of the San Diego-based Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific.
