November 2 Market Close: GovCon Index, US Stocks Climb on Earnings, Data

GovConIndexUPThe GovCon Index rode a full day of gains U.S. markets Monday with its own 0.713-point climb to a new all-time high of 77.987.

Monday marks the third session out of four that the Index ended at a new record closing figure after an October that represents its strongest month in 2015.

Leidos Holdings (NYSE: LDOS) gained 3.56 percent to 54.44 after investment firm Drexel Hamilton upgraded the Reston, Va.-based engineering and national security contractor from “hold” to “buy” on third quarter results and raised guidance.

Healthcare and energy shares in the S&P 500 were that index’s top-performing sectors Monday and investors will scrutinize the government’s October jobs report due Friday, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The S&P 500 closed above 2, 100 for the first time since August and the Dow Jones Industrial Average is in positive territory for 2015 after sharp losses in the third quarter.
