State Dept Clears Spain’s $243M General Atomics Reaper UAV Purchase


ReaperThe State Department has approved Spain’s request to purchase four General Atomics-built Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles and associated equipment from the U.S. under a $243 million foreign military sale.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday the order also includes 20 positioning and guidance units, two mobile ground control stations, five Multi-Spectral Targeting Systems and five Lynx AN/APY-8.

L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) and Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) are also contractors for the FMS agreement.

DSCA said Spain seeks to support its intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance activities for homeland security, peace enforcement, counterterrorism and counterinsurgency missions.

Spain also requested logistics services, program support and personnel training.
