Intel Seeks to Leverage Cognitive Computing Through Saffron Acquisition


big dataIntel (Nasdaq: INTC) has agreed to purchase cognitive computing software provider Saffron for an undisclosed amount in an effort to gain access to Saffron’s client base in the aerospace, manufacturing and healthcare sectors.

Intel said Monday it will leverage Saffron’s cognitive computing platform and deploy it in small consumer devices designed to process and analyze big data workloads.

Fortune reports Saffron’s software platform works to process data from various sources and apply human brain-like reasoning to solve complex problems for clients.

Intel will integrate Saffron with its new devices group and incorporate the latter’s technology offering into its pipeline of platforms designed for cybersecurity, healthcare, big data and Internet of Things applications.
