Robert Calderoni, executive chairman of the board of directors at Citrix (Nasdaq: CTXS), will serve as the company’s interim president and CEO as Mark Templeton steps down to assume an advisory role.

Citrix said Wednesday Calderoni will perform the additional duties while the board continues the search for a full-time CEO with the help of Heidrick & Struggles.

“With more than 30 years of executive experience in the technology sector, and as a director of Citrix, Bob has a deep understanding not only of the marketplace but of our business as well, ” said Thomas Bogan, lead independent director at Citrix.

“[We] believe that he is the right choice to lead Citrix as we continue to focus on the transformative initiatives announced in July.”

Calderoni also leads the CEO search committee and has served as Citrix’s executive chairman since July.

He has chaired the board of directors at Ariba before SAP (NYSE: SAP) acquired it in 2012,  then remained as CEO of Ariba and became a member of SAP’s global managing board following the acquisition.

He has also held leadership roles at Avery Dennison Corp., Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) and IBM (NYSE: IBM), and boardroom duties at Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) and KLA Tencor.
