UMUC Recognizes Cybersecurity Leaders at Third Annual Cyber Gala


umuc resizedOn Saturday evening University of Maryland University College (UMUC) held it’s third annual black-tie Cyber Gala at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center.

The evening was hosted by Emma Garrison-Alexander, master of ceremonies, with a welcome from Javier Miyares, president UMUC and remarks from Anne V. Maher, attorney at Law, Kleinfield, Kaplan & Becker, LLP.

The event recognized “individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of cybersecurity”.  James Hamre, president and CEO of the Center for Strategic and International Studies received the Pioneer Award in Cybersecurity, and Steven Shirley, executive director of the Defense Cyber Crime Center with the Leadership Award in Cybersecurity.

The keynote speaker James Clapper, National Intelligence Director presented an informative and entertaining speech, delivering the message to the up and coming UMUC graduates “we need you”.

The event was well attended by business leaders, government officials, and academic scholars.
