The State Department has approved the U.K’s request to purchase $3 billion in AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters and associated parts, equipment and logistics services from the U.S. government through a foreign military sales agreement.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday the prime contractors for the deal are Boeing (NYSE: BA), Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), General Electric (NYSE: GE) and the Lockheed-Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) joint venture Longbow.

Great Britain asked for the remanufacture or refurbishment of the attack helicopters and components such as engines, sensors, radars, missile warning and global positioning systems and integrated helmets.

The order also includes spare and repair parts, ammunition and communication equipment, as well as personnel training, technical, engineering and logistics support services.

DSCA noted the U.K. aims to achieve greater interoperability with U.S. forces and also to support counterterrorism, counter-piracy and other operations in partnership with other NATO allies.
