TYSONS CORNER, VA July 22, 2015 — ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday on Hughes and its industry partners performing a test transmission of high-definition video via satellite from a rotary wing aircraft.

Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of the defense and intelligence systems division at Hughes, indicated that the exercise demonstrated a new satcom capability — zero packet loss in a rotary platform.

“The military and law enforcement personnel employing helicopters for [beyond line of sight] communication have been limited in the past, but not anymore, ” Lober said Monday.

“This technology opens the door for pervasive use of satcom-enabled helicopters over mountainous terrain, open water, natural disasters or anywhere that line of sight communication means are blocked or out of range.”
