Level 3 Seeks to Build DDoS Mitigation Service With Black Lotus Buy; Chris Richter Comments


acquisitionLevel 3 Communications (NYSE: LVLT) has acquired Distributed Denial of Service mitigation company Black Lotus for an undisclosed amount of cash as part of efforts to bolster the Level 3 security product portfolio.

The company said Wednesday Black Lotus’ proxy-based technology will also add to the network-based Level 3 DDoS Mitigation scrubbing service.

“Black Lotus’ proxy and behavioral technologies … complements Level 3’s DDoS mitigation and threat intelligence capabilities, ” said Chris Richter, senior vice president of managed security services at Level 3.

According to the company, the combined technologies include network routing, rate limiting, IP filtering, application layer protection and behavioral analytics functions.
