David King, formerly president of Dynetics, has been appointed CEO of the Huntsville, Alabama-based engineering, applied science and information technology company.

Dynetics said Wednesday King will succeed Marc Bendickson, the four-decade company veteran who will remain as chairman of the board of directors.

“[King] started the space division, which has become a major area of business for us, and he has been a driving force behind several new product lines including our GroundAware radar and small satellites, ” said Bendickson.

“I’m confident he will capably lead Dynetics into the future as we continue to grow into a larger and more diverse company serving a variety of industries and government agencies, ” added Bendickson.

King was named president of the company in October 2013 after he served as executive vice president and manager of the integrated systems and special programs operating unit.

He served as director of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center before he joined Dynetics in 2009.

Greg Lester, formerly EVP for defense, space and intelligence, will succeed King as president.
