TYSONS CORNER, VA June 9, 2015 — Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, senior vice president of government policy and strategy at Inmarsat’s U.S. government business, has urged the defense community to consider using a satellite communications as a service model and strengthen partnerships with industry in a bid to unify satcom, ExecutiveBiz reported Monday.

“Imagine the enhanced capability that would be provided for the full spectrum of government operations, from humanitarian relief to full-scale military operation, if the U.S. government developed and executed an integrated satcom architecture and reformed how it acquires satcom, ” Cowen-Hirsch said in a SpaceNews op-ed piece published Wednesday.

“With a centralized military and commercial partnership… it will cease to matter as to the source of the satellite communications, only that it allows [warfighters] to execute their mission when and where required, regardless of where they are operating, ” she added.
