Huntington Ingalls Breaks Ground on New Shipyard Facility


Huntington Ingalls HIITYSONS CORNER, VA June 25, 2015 — Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) company Newport News Shipbuilding has broken ground on a new facility at the Virginia shipyard for the manufacture of submarines and aircraft carriers, ExecutiveBiz reported Wednesday.

HII said Monday the planned Joint Manufacturing Assembly Facility will bring work indoors and include multiple production bays and automated equipment, with an initial opening scheduled for 2017.

“We aren’t just breaking ground on a new facility, we’re breaking the mold on how we build aircraft carriers and submarines, ” said Matt Mulherin, president of Newport News Shipbuilding.
