George Kurian, formerly executive vice president for product operations at NetApp (Nasdaq: NTAP), will elevate to the CEO post and join the board of directors following the departure of former chief executive Tom Georgens.

NetApp said Monday former Lead Independent Director Mike Nevens will assume Georgens’ duties as chairman of the board.

“These changes are aimed at speeding the company’s movement to its next phase of innovation and growth, ” said Nevens.

“George has deep relationships with customers and partners globally and is committed to strengthening those relationships going forward.”

Kurian joined the company in 2011 and was appointed in September 2013 to oversee NetApp’s product development and strategy as EVP for product operations.
