Serco Group Appoints Former Centrica CEO Roy Gardner Chairman

Roy Gardner, formerly group chief executive of Centrica, will join the Serco Group board of directors as the non-executive chairman and successor to the retiring Alastair Lyons on July 1.

The company said Thursday Gardner will first serve as a non-executive director on the board beginning June 1 as part of a one-month transition period.

“He brings deep experience of leading boards, as well as proven skills in managing large multinational organizations, a commitment to public service, and a track record of bringing appropriate challenge to the executive teams that he has worked with, ” said Mike Clasper, senior independent director at Serco.

Gardner has served as chairman of Compass Group and held senior leadership roles at British Aircraft Corp., British Gas, General Electric and Marconi.

He currently holds board positions at Mainstream Renewable Power,  William Hill and Willis Group Holdings as well as an advisory role at Credit Suisse Group.
