Huntington Ingalls Unveils Proteus Undersea Tech; Ross Lindman Comments

Huntington Ingalls HIITYSONS CORNER, VA April 21, 2015 — Executive Mosaic — Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) has unveiled its Proteus submersible designed to adapt to different naval missions and sea operations, ExecutiveBiz reported Monday.

The Daily Press reported April 13 that the craft, created by HII subsidiary Undersea Solutions Group,  Battelle and Battelle company Bluefin Robotics, is built for up to six divers but can also operate as an unmanned underwater vehicle that could be used for surveillance, transporting supplies or firing weapons.

The 8, 200-pound vessel was on display at the recently concluded Sea-Air-Space Exposition in Maryland.

“We’re here to bring it out as an asset for the Navy, under lease as a test platform, ” Ross Lindman, USG senior vice president for operations,  told Defense News last week.

“It has a very large payload, lots of range and provides near-term capability to answer urgent needs.”
