big data2TYSONS CORNER, VA April 22, 2015 — Executive Mosaic — Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker has enlisted the industry’s help in the department’s mission to release its rich stores of weather, ocean, climate and water information to the general public, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.

The data alliance tasks Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) Web Services, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Cloud Platform, IBM, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) and the nonprofit Open Cloud Consortium to create and provide the tools to promote the use of information from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which produces 20 terabytes of data a day,  the Commerce Department said Tuesday.

“As America’s data agency, we are excited about these collaborations and the opportunities they present to drive economic growth and business innovation, ” said Pritzker.

“The Commerce Department’s data collection literally reaches from the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun and this announcement is another example of our ongoing commitment to providing a broad foundation for economic growth and opportunity to America’s businesses.”
