Commerce Department Enters Open Data Alliance with Amazon, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Open Cloud Consortium


big data2TYSONS CORNER, VA April 22, 2015 — Executive Mosaic — Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker has enlisted the industry’s help in the department’s mission to release its rich stores of weather, ocean, climate and water information to the general public, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.

The data alliance tasks Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) Web Services, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Cloud Platform, IBM, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) and the nonprofit Open Cloud Consortium to create and provide the tools to promote the use of information from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which produces 20 terabytes of data a day,  the Commerce Department said Tuesday.
