NCI Inc. (Nasdaq: NCIT) has been awarded a one-year, $14 million contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to identify and investigate fraudulent activities related to the Medicare program.

NCI’s AdvanceMed business will perform program integrity services, coding determinations and administrative action enforcement in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin, the company said Tuesday.

Brian Clark, NCI president, said the company intends for the contract to help CMS “uncover and mitigate fraud, waste and abuse in the [Medicare] program.”

NCI will also help CMS to determine organizations in need of future monitoring and to develop referring cases and law enforcement to prosecute related cases.
