Lockheed, AM General, Oshkosh Bid for US Army’s Armored Vehicle Program

ArmyGroundVehicleLockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), AM General and Oshkosh Defense (NYSE: OSK) have submitted proposals for the U.S. Army’s joint light tactical vehicle program, Defense News reported Tuesday.

Joe Gould writes the Army plans to award a single company the firm-fixed-price contract for 50, 000 armored vehicles and the U.S. Marine Corps wants to buy 5, 500 JLTVs.

The contract will contain three years of low-rate initial production period and five years of full-rate production, according to the report.

A Lockheed Martin-BAE Systems partnership is vying for the contract, the report says.

AM General announced it would offer the company’s blast resistant vehicle and Oshkosh its light combat tactical all-terrain vehicle variant, Defense News reports.

The Army expects to receive the first JLTV unit after fiscal 2018 and continue the procurement of general purpose, heavy gun carrier, close combat weapons carrier and utility vehicles until 2040, Gould reports.

The Marine Corps plans to complete fielding in fiscal 2022, with the initial operating capability scheduled in fiscal 2018, the report says.
