Harris to Build Satellite Weather Observation Receiver for NOAA; Romy Olaisen Comments

GOES-NOAAHarris Corp. (NYSE: HRS) will build a satellite weather observation receiver for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration under a three-year, $20 million contract.

The WxConnect products will be deployed across eight national weather service locations to process satellite weather observations from the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite R-Series rebroadcast and Japanese HimawariCast services, Harris said Wednesday.

“These Harris products allow forecasters to exploit new capabilities from the next generation satellites, providing a significant step towards NOAA’s vision of a weather-ready nation, ” said Romy Olaisen, vice president of global weather services at Harris.

Harris booked the contract during the first quarter of its 2015 fiscal year and also serves as the systems integrator for the GOES-R ground segment.
