Bechtel‘s plant machinery organization hasÂ secured close to $820 million in contract funds to continue work naval nuclear propulsion components forÂ U.S. Navy vessels.
The Defense Department said WednesdayÂ the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington awarded the contract funds as part of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion program.
NAVSEA awarded a new $612.8 million contract to Bechtel and a $206.7 million modification on a separate contract.
Under the new contract, Â the NavyÂ will allocate the full funding amount from its fiscal yearÂ 2015 shipbuilding and conversionÂ budget at the time of award.
The Navy will obligate $194.5 million in fiscal 2015 otherÂ procurement funds at the time of award forÂ the modification.
Bechtel carries out NNP program work in Monroeville, Pennsylvania and Schenectady, New York.
