Tip Osterthaler, president and CEO of SES Government Solutions, plans to retire in March 2015 after nearly a decade at the helm of the satellite services provider.

SES Government Solutions said Thursday a search committee within the board of directors will conduct an executive search for Osterthaler’s successor in order to enable the transition process to start early next year.

Billy Bingham, chairman of the SES GS proxy board, credited Osterthaler for “[invigorating a number of Congressional and defense policy initiatives that continue to improve the way our government acquires critical communications capability.”

Before his current role, Osterthaler served as CEO of the SES subsidiary AMERICOM Government Services.

Osterthaler’s GovCon industry career includes also service as a senior vice president at Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAI)

The 28-year Air Force veteran and retired brigadier general is a former deputy assistant defense secretary for European and NATO policy.
