Michael Brown, interim president and CEO of Symantec (NASDAQ: SYMC), has been confirmed for the chief executive role on a full-time basis by the board of directors after six months as acting CEO.

Brown was selected through an executive search process performed by a special committee within the board alongside search firm Russell Reynolds, Symantec said Thursday.

“[He] demonstrated vision and creativity as he has worked with the board and the management team to develop a strategic plan based on focused investment and innovation in key areas of high customer need, ” said Dan Schulman, chairman of the board.

Brown will present a strategic plan to shareholders, employees and customers within the next month.

The company also noted that Brown has worked on its financial performance and operations through new revenue and efficiency initiatives, as well as through several executive hires.

He joined Symantec in 2005 through its merger with VERITAS Software and has also previously served in the boards of Quantum Corp., EqualLogic, Line 6 and The Echo Nest.
