FORTIS exoskeletons work to transfer the weight of loads from the operatorâs body to the ground in order to boost the userâs strength and endurance, Lockheed Martin said Monday.
âBy wearing the FORTIS exoskeleton, operators can hold the weight of those heavy tools for extended periods of time with reduced fatigue, â said Adam Miller, director of new initiatives at Lockheed’s missiles and fire control business.
The project aims to move exoskeleton technology into industrial use within the Defense Department and test the system for industrial applications at Navy shipyards.
Lockheed developed the exoskeleton through the NCMS Commercial Technologies for Maintenance Activities program.
