Jerry Beaman, formerly president of the unmanned combat aerial systems division at Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (NASDAQ: KTOS), has been appointed president of the newly created Kratos Unmanned Systems Division.

The company said Thursday that Beaman, a retired U.S. Navy officer, will oversee the company’s programs in the unmanned aerial, seaborne, ground-based, drone and combat systems fields.

“(Beaman’s leadership, experience and vision for Kratos’ unmanned business and strategy align with our important customer relationships and the market opportunities we are pursuing, ” said Eric DeMarco, Kratos president and chief executive.

Beaman, a 35-year Navy veteran, served as a vice admiral and commander of the U.S. Third Fleet before his retirement from military service.

He also held the positions of deputy chief of staff of operations, global force management, training and experimentation for the Fleet Forces Command, commander of the Strike Force Training Pacific and deputy chief of staff of operations for the Joint Forces Command.
