Greg Owens: IronPlanet to Help Pentagon Sell Surplus Machinery

ArmyGroundVehicleIronPlanet has been awarded a six-year contract to sell the U.S. Defense Department‘s surplus trucks and heavy equipment through the company’s online marketplace.

The contract was awarded by the Defense Logistics Agency and covers the sale of surplus military assets such as trucks, trailers, wheel loaders, cranes, generators and crawler tractors, IronPlanet said Monday.

“We have already begun moving forward leveraging our existing infrastructure and resources to build the dedicated capabilities necessary to maximize the returns for the U.S. Department of Defense, and ultimately the U.S. taxpayer, in selling their surplus rolling stock assets, ” said Greg Owens, CEO of IronPlanet.

DLA picked IronPlanet based on the company’s 75.29 percent revenue sharing proposal.

The contract includes a two-year base period and an option to extend work for an additional four years.
