Daniel Friedmann: MDA Adds to Radar Info Processing Portfolio Through Acquisition

visualizationMacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA) has agreed to buy an unidentified information sensors business for an undisclosed amount in a move to pursue opportunities in the U.S. surveillance market.

British Columbia-based MDA plans to integrate that business into its Gaithersburg, Maryland-based Information Systems LLC subsidiary and expects to close the deal later this year, MDA said Monday.

The deal is also subject to the approval of the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment.

Daniel Friedmann, MDA CEO, said the company intends to expand its radar information and systems related business through the acquisition.

“We believe that the unique radar information processing capability we are adding through this acquisition, together with (Space Systems/Loral‘s) large space program capability, provide us with a strong platform to pursue this objective, ” added Friedmann.

The acquired company employs nearly 170 people and makes $40 million in annual revenue, MDA says.
