USAID Invests $10M to Fight Corruption in Kyiv

USAID logoU.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Adminstrator Rajiv Shah today announced $10 million in additional U.S. support to aid in the fight against corruption in Ukraine.

The support is part of the U.S. Government’s committment to fighting corruption by helping Ukranian citizens develop a systematic approach to monitor what their government is doing to help, or hinder them.

“Across the world we see how corruption stifles dreams and limits opportunity, ” said Shah.

Shah’s announcement took place during remarks made at the Kyiv National Economics University, prompting the government of Ukraine to acknowledge the need to address corruption and enact systematic changes to detect and prevent corruption.

USAID programs stretch across all sectors in Ukraine–democracy and governance, economic development and health–working fervently to increase transparency and prevent further corruption from spreading.

Shah visited Kyiv and Odesa to meet with Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and other government officials to dicuss the States’ efforts to attract investments.

“By working hand-in-hand with our partners to increase transparency, we can unlock broad-based economic growth and strengthen democratic governance in Ukraine for generations to come, ” said Shah.

In the past 20 years USAID has provided Ukraine with over $2 billion in investments to build a better city with stronger democratic structures and improved healthcare, providing the critical support needed to help stabilize the economy.
