Lockheed to Integrate Fighter Jet Targeting Pods for South Korea, Jordan


lockheed martinLockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has been awarded two contracts to help South Korea’s and Jordan’s air forces install an electro-optical targeting system on their fighter planes.

The company will provide its Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod as well as associated hardware and training support for KF-16 and F-15K fighters used by the Republic of Korea Air Force, Lockheed said June 11.

In a separate announcement, Lockheed said the Royal Jordanian Air Force awarded the company a $16.5 million contract for five F-16 pods along with support equipment and program management services.

Sniper ATP is designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaisance operations and can integrate with GPS- and laser-guided weapons to identify multiple targets.

The pod features a datalink technology for pilots to exchange video files with ground troops, according to Lockheed.

Lockheed built the Sniper to operate on F-15, F-16, F-18, A-10, B-1 and B-52 military aircraft platforms.
