J. Michael McGuire, former national managing partner for operations at Grant Thornton, has been elected the company’s chief executive officer to succeed Stephen Chipman on Jan. 1, 2015.
Chipman’s term as CEO was extended to Dec. 31 of this year by the partnership board and he will work alongside CEO-elect McGuire, Grant Thornton said Monday.
“[McGuire] has been instrumental in the growth of the firm, having been involved in numerous high-profile, transformational efforts, ” said Dave Wedding, chairman of the partnership board.
McGuire is also currently chair of the Grant Thornton Foundation and member of the strategic driver execution team.
In his previous role, he managed the company’s human resources, marketing and sales groups and led the regional managing partners.
He has also served on the partnership board and as national managing partner of markets, industry, people and culture.
McGuire is a board member at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and Queens University of Charlotte, and chairman of the Advantage Carolina board.
