Enstrom will provide training helicopters to the Venezuelan military for an undisclosed sum in a deal that marks the foreign government’s first purchase from an American maker in over a decade, CEO Tracy Biegler said Saturday.

“We are pleased that the 480B was selected for this training mission, ” he added.

The company said it will manufacture and deliver 16 Enstrom 420B small light helicopters, spare parts and tools to Venezuela within the next 18 months.

Helicopters have been the subject of some foreign military sales activity within the past year, including a potential $6.2 billion sale Iraq and the U.S. agreed to in January.

Enstrom did not disclose the financial details of the contract, which it negotiated in coordination with Helinautica.

Helinautica owner Guillermo Basalo Sucre said Enstrom was picked for its product support services.
