CGI Federal (NYSE: GIB) has obtained a provisional authorization from the Defense Information Systems Agency for the subsidiary’s cloud-based virtual machine services.

DISA gave CGI Federal a provisional authority-to-operate approval to deliver cloud security offerings to defense organizations under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, CGI said Monday.

“CGI is excited to be a part of an effort that brings together all branches of the military around common security controls in this critical infrastructure and application management technology, ” said James Peake, CGI Federal president.

Under a separate FedRAMP certification, the company is authorized to operate secure cloud computing services for its federal civilian agency customers.

The company has worked with the Army, 11 federal agencies and five state agencies to move the organizations’ websites or applications into a cloud environment.

CGI is also participating in the Department of Homeland Security‘s run continuous diagnostics and monitoring program.
