Hughes to Continue SATCOM Work for GSA Distance Learning Program

Hughes logo_ExecutiveBizHughes Network Systems will continue to provide its satellite-based technical services for the General Services Administration’s government distance learning program, GCN reported Monday.

Kathleen Hickey writes Hughes will help install and maintain a one-way video and two-way audio network for students in the U.S. and the Caribbean region to connect with remote instructors through broadband satellites.

The network is designed to transmit digital video and audio programs for conferencing and integrated voice and data response systems, according to the report.

Agencies such as the Defense Department, Federal Aviation Administration, Justice Department, FBI and Energy Department share technology and facilities under the program for training courses covering medical training, aircraft maintenance and contract management, the report says.

The four-and-a-half-year-contract was awarded to Hughes through GSA’s Custom Satellite Communication Solutions contract vehicle, GCN reports.
