Mariann Byerwalter Elected SRI Board Chair; Wendell Wierenga Assumes Director Role

SRI International logoMariann Byerwalter, who joined SRI International‘s board of directors in 1998, has succeeded Vern Clark as chairman at the Silicon Valley, Calif.-based nonprofit technology research and development organization.

She most recently chaired the board of directors for Stanford Hospital and Clinics and has served as a trustee and chief financial officer for Stanford University, SRI said Wednesday.

Byerwalter’s background includes roles in business development, public sector cost analysis and information technology, SRI says.

She also serves on the boards of several other organizations, including Pacific Life Insurance, Burlington Capital Group, Redwood Trust and SchwabFunds.

SRI also announced that Wendell Wierenga, Santarus‘ executive vice president of research and development, was elected to the organization’s board.

He brings experience in pharmaceutical research, development, manufacturing, regulatory affairs and safety, according to SRA.

Previously, Wierenga led biotechnology firm Syrrx as CEO and has also held executive-level positions at Ambit, Neurocrine Biosciences, Upjohn Pharmaceuticals and Parke-Davis/Warner Lambert.

He is a member of the scientific advisory boards of aTyr Pharma, Concert Pharmaceuticals and Ferring Pharmaceuticals.
