Angie Petty: Federal IT Consolidation Program Brings Opportunities for Contractors

datacenterThe U.S. government’s initiative to consolidate federal data centers presents a business opportunity for information technology contractors, Angie Petty of Deltek wrote for the Washington Post in an article published Sunday.

Petty, a senior principal analyst at Deltek, writes government agencies are seeking cloud computing and other information technology services in order to meet the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative‘s goals.

Agencies have identified more than 7, 000 data centers for closure and have already shuttered 946 facilities to date, according to the article.

Petty writes federal IT departments also aim to address energy consumption and cost issues by implementing processes such as server virtualization, the Post reports.
