Pentagon Seeks Industry Support for Health IT Contract Extension

HealthITThe Defense Department is seeking a contractor to perform support work on its electronic medical records management platform through 2018, Nextgov reported Thursday.

Bob Brewin writes the solicitation would extend the timeline for DoD’s Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application and Composite Healthcare System contract vehicle.

Science Application International Corp. (NYSE: SAI) is the original contractor for the CHCS contract and has received $1.2 billion during the past 26 years under the program, according to the report.

AHLTA is built to help physicians access military health information and CHSC is designed to manage laboratory results, prescriptions and medical appointments, Brewin writes.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel dropped a proposal for a joint EHR infrastructure between the Pentagon and Department of Veterans Affairs in May and ordered the Pentagon to utilize a commercial EHR platform instead, NextGov reports.
