AppTek Buys Leidos’ Translation, Speech Recognition Software; Mohammad Shihadah Comments

acquisitionLeidos (NYSE: LDOS) has sold its Omnifluent suite of human language technology products to McLean, Va.-based speech recognition technology company Applications Technology.

Omnifluent products work to use speech recognition and translation tools for more than 30 languages and dialects and the sale includes applications in media monitoring, closed captioning, subtitling, mobile and telephony tools, AppTek said Tuesday.

“The growth in video and social networking sites has greatly contributed to the amount of unstructured content on the Web, ” said Mohammad Shihadah, co-CEO of AppTek.

“Our technology can leverage this unstructured data by optimizing lingual response systems, ” Shihadah added.

Markets and Markets estimates natural language processing sector will grow from $3.8 billion in 2013 to $9.9 billion in 2018, according to AppTek’s announcement.
