Thales Communications Rebrands, Merges Business Units; Alan Pellegrini Comments

Thales logoThales Communications, a U.S.-based subsidiary of the global aerospace and defense technology conglomerate, has changed its name to Thales Defense & Security after a series of business unit mergers and acquisitions.

The rebranding and reorganization took effect Oct. 1 as two Thales businesses merged with Thales Communications and the former Thales USA Defense and Security unit, Thales said Wednesday.

Acquired businesses Tampa Microwave, Visionix and InterSense are also a part of the renamed subsidiary.

“Thales has essentially consolidated its U.S. defense and security businesses under one company, ” said Alan Pellegrini, president and CEO of Thales USA.

Michael Sheehan, president and CEO of Thales Defense & Security, said the business reorganized as it aims to grow its technology base in the defense, federal and commercial markets.

Thales Defense & Security operates under a proxy agreement to develop defense technologies and perform other work on U.S. government projects.

Additionally, the Thales e-Security business and the Thales-DRS Technologies joint venture Advanced Acoustic Concepts are now controlled by Thales Defense & Security with no leadership changes.

Thales e-Security develops data protection tools and Advanced Acoustic Concepts provides sonar systems to customers.
