Systems Made Simple Picked for DoD-VA Health Record Interoperability Project; Al Nardslico Comments

HealthSystems Made Simple has won a re-compete contract to work with the departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs on a program consolidate the health records of active and retired military servicemen.

SMS will provide systems engineering and technology support to the DoD-VA Interagency Program Office for the Integrated Electronic Health Record System Integration contract, SMS said Wednesday.

“The VA and DoD currently run two of the largest healthcare systems in the world, and our team is dedicated to providing the right technology and services that focus on ensuring this integration effort is a success, ” said Al Nardslico, SMS president and co-founder.

SMS will work to help build a unified health record system with a service-oriented framework that is intended to facilitate data interoperability between DoD and VA healthcare facilities.

The IPO also aims to develop terminology translation services as part of efforts to establish common format for the records used by both departments.

SMS won the contract through the National Institutes of Health Information Technology Acquisition and Assessment Center’s Chief Information Officer-Solutions and Partners 3 vehicle.
