Bechtel Division to Build Navy Nuclear Propulsion Tech for $197M

BechtelA division of Bechtel has been awarded a $197, 571, 818 modification to produce nuclear propulsion components for the U.S. Navy.

Bechtel Plant Machinery will receive $167, 183, 261 in fiscal year 2014 contract funds at the time of award from the Navy and no funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year, the Defense Department said Tuesday.

BPMI has been awarded two modifications within the past year for the components, including an estimated $296.4 million award announced in May and a $355.8 million modification awarded in November 2012.

The Pentagon does not disclose additional information on contracts for the naval nuclear propulsion program, which has been a part of the National Nuclear Security Administration since 2000.

A government restructuring in the 1970s transitioned the program from the former Atomic Energy Commission to what is now known as the Energy Department.
